Frequent Questions and Answers
Q: What is a class honorary?
A: The class honoraries strive to induct students who excel in service, scholarship and
leadership and provide to them an opportunity to get involved on campus, in the Columbus
community, make friends and have a great time. It is a great honor to be inducted into
one of the groups, but requires a one year commitment. It is not just a resume builder -
each group sponsors activities for themselves and for the community that require
participation. But, it's all fun! If you're looking for a great way to get involved, this
could be it!
Q:What is the difference between the two honoraries for each class ranking?
A: Originally, one honorary was male and one female, but every honorary is now co-ed.
The differences now lie in their traditions, service projects, and social activities.
Each group has aspects that are unique to them, and those should be considered when
deciding which to apply to. Visit the honorary description page and each group's website
to learn about each honorary.
*This applies for sophomore, junior and senior honoraries.
Q:What are the requirements to join an honorary?
A:Selections are based on an application process. The sophomore, junior and senior
honoraries require a 3.0 GPA.
Q:How do I apply for an honorary?
A:The freshman honorary, ALD-PES, invites first year students to join if they achieve
a 3.5 GPA during one of their first three quarters at Ohio State. No applications are necessary - you will be
contacted. To apply to a sophomore or junior honorary, fill out the application on the
application link on our AOSCH homepage. The applications are available starting winter quarter and usually are due in mid to late February.
Q:If I'm a freshman, why do I apply to a sophomore honorary?
A:You apply for an honorary the winter before so you spend the upcoming year with
the group. Inductions will take place spring quarter and will begin your term. Your term
ends when the next class is then inducted.
*This applies for sophomore, junior and senior
honoraries.
Q: I'm a first year student, but a rank 2. Should I apply for a sophomore or junior
honorary?
A:This is really your choice. If you are still planning on graduating in 4 years, then
we suggest applying for a sophomore honorary. If you are graduating early, then you might want
to apply to a junior honorary. But, again, it is your choice.
*This applies for sophomore, junior and senior honoraries.
